What happens when you use Stainless Steel with Galvanised products?

Firstly the answer to this questions should be "why would you use anything other than stainless steel?'  However I must admit we are a little biased ðŸ˜Š

But the real reason is that stainless steel has the best corrosion resistance of the metals hence there is usually a corrosion hazard for the other metal used with it.

The risk of galvanising corroding when used with stainless depends on a number of factors.  For instance Hot Dipped Galvanised has better corrosion resistance than Electro Polished Galvanised. But with that in mind it is recommended that in marine, salty or moist areas even using Hot Dibbed Galvanised with stainless steel will cause corrosion.

As you can see from the above image the areas of the galvanised eye nut that in contact with the stainless steel twisted dee shackle has the worst corrosion.   For information about cleaning stainless steel in coastal environments check out our article Cleaning In Coastal Environments.

Now with our new economy range of hardware ECON, which is competetively priced there should reason to make this same mistake.
